Message from Congressman Cleaver:
I am reaching out to inform you that pandemic relief for Missouri families is still available through the Summer Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) program. This program--which has already helped thousands of children throughout our state--allows students who are approved for free or reduced-price meals for the 2021-2022 school year to apply for a one-time, $375 Summer P-EBT benefit. This substantial effort was included in initial COVID relief packages and extended under the transformative American Rescue Plan, which continues to deliver for Missouri and the rest of the country.
Applications for this important program close soon, even as the pandemic and school year continue. Eligible families should submit applications electronically or by mail to the Missouri Department of Social Services. Applications must be postmarked by October 9 or submitted online by 11:59 p.m. on October 10.
I was proud to help pass the American Rescue Plan with P-EBT included, and I want to ensure low-income families impacted by school closures can take full advantage of the program. Defeating this pandemic requires a multifaceted approach, and this expansion of EBT benefits is an important part of a robust public health strategy. I encourage all Missourians in the Fifth Congressional District to check their eligibility and fill out their application before the October 10 deadline. For more information on the P-EBT program, you can find some frequently asked questions here and below.
What is Summer P-EBT?
In 2021, Congress extended P-EBT to any 'covered summer period' following a school year when a public health emergency due to COVID-19 was declared. This benefit, called Summer Pandemic Electronic benefit Transfer (P-EBT), helps supply meals to a child who experiences lack of meals during the Summer months. If eligible, Summer P-EBT are benefits loaded to a household's new or existing P-EBT card.
Do I need to apply for Summer P-EBT?
You will need to apply for Summer P-EBT if you did not already apply for P-EBT by August 20, 2021. Applications for P-EBT (including all denied applications) will be automatically reviewed for eligibility for a Summer P-EBT benefit.
Who is eligible?
Children who were already approved for the free and reduced lunch program at their school during the last month of the 2020-2021 school year may be eligible for Summer P-EBT.
When will I get my benefit?
The one-time Summer P-EBT benefit of $375 will be loaded automatically to EBT cards as P-EBT and Summer P-EBT applications are reviewed and approved. Summer P-EBT benefits will be loaded on the Saturday following your child's approval for Summer P-EBT.
